Members-only roundtable sessions will begin mid-March and conclude at the end of April. \nBelow you will find the schedule of sessions\, along with corresponding registration links for each. As we add additional roundtable sessions they will be included below. \nIf you have any questions\, please let us know at info@esig.energy. \n\nOpening Plenary Session\nPerformance Analytics for Wind and Solar\nMonday\, March 15: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (eastern)\nDuring the Opening Plenary\, four industry experts will speak about their experience in solar and wind performance analytics. Peter Burgess from EDF Renewables will speak about solar analytics. He has led the development of solar analytics for EDF\, and will discuss motivation for looking at solar performance\, failure modes\, metrics to measure\, sources of data\, and examples of findings. Eric Eggleston of Con Edison will speak about wind analytics he has developed\, including how to correct nacelle transfer functions\, identifying bad pitch performance\, and high wind cut out and power curve corrections. Phil Gauthier from EDF Renewables will discuss the understanding and optimizing performance of wind assets in cold climate conditions including cold weather packages\, ice operational modes and de-icing/anti-icing solutions. The session will wrap up with Mark Young from BlackRock\, who will speak from an owner and equity investor perspective on the state of performance analytics in renewables\, and discuss his experience with software offerings. There will be time for an engaging Q&A with our speakers at the end. \nPresenters: \nPeter Burgess\, Solar Engineer\nEDF Renewables \nEric Eggleston\, Performance Reliability Engineer\nCon Edison \nPhil Gauthier\, Fleet Engineering Manager\nEDF Renewables \nMark Young\, Director\, Renewable Technical Operations Americas\nBlackRock \nRegistration is open to all O&M Users Group members\, ESIG members\, and invited individuals. \nREGISTER HERE\n\nClosing Plenary Session\nEpisode II: The Science Behind Performance Analytics for Renewable Energy Plants\nTuesday\, April 27: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (eastern)\nIn the Opening Plenary Session\, EPISODE I: Performance Analytics for Renewable Energy Plants\, we explored how wind and solar plant owner/operators use performance analytics. During Episode II\, we’ll explore the science and technology behind performance analytics. \nJoin us to hear speakers from Avangrid\, Clir\, Ensemble Energy\, ServusNet Informatics\, Power Factors and others covering topics varying from validating anti-icing solutions and performance upgrades\, to establishing the right data strategy to reduce financing and insurance costs. \nPresenters: \nLeveraging Data Strategy to Lower Financing and Insurance Costs\nGareth Brown\, CEO & Co-Founder\, Clir Renewables \nUse of Higher Frequency Data in Identifying Yaw Misalignment\, Pitch Issues and Sub-interval Issues\nDariush Faghani\, Senior Engineer\, Power Factors \nDes Farren\, CEO\, ServusNet Informatics \nOpenOA – An Open-Source Framework for Operational Analysis of Wind Plants\nEric Simley\, Research Engineer\, NREL \nRegistration is open to all O&M Users Group members\, ESIG members\, and invited individuals. \nREGISTER HERE\n\nRoundtable Sessions\nThe heart of the meeting consists of manufacturer-specific roundtables for users group members only. The format consists of open discussions\, moderated by Roundtable Chairpersons\, centered on a specific wind turbine\, solar\, or energy storage model and component. The Roundtables provide the opportunity for frank and open discussion among users\, who share their information\, knowledge and experience. \nParticipation in the Roundtables is limited to employees of ESIG member organizations that own\, operate\, or maintain wind generation equipment. \nBelow you’ll find a list of the roundtable sessions currently scheduled. SUMMARY:System Operation & Market Design Working Group Spring 2021 Session
DESCRIPTION:The System Operation & Market Design Working Group will hold an online session on Thursday\, April 15\, 3:00 – 5:00 pm (eastern US). \nTopic: Using Advanced Forecasts for Operating the Power Grid\nRenewable forecasts have been used for operating the bulk power system for more than 15 years\, and load forecasts for many decades. Until recently\, forecasts have tended to be deterministic\, representing the ‘best guess’ of expected behavior for the time period. More advanced methods that explicitly represent uncertainty have recently begun to be investigated and adopted\, leveraging the additional information to better inform decision making processes by including risk considerations. This working group session will discuss ongoing efforts in the area\, in order to better show how new methods can be adopted that may improve reliability and efficiency of system operations. \nSession Introduction\nErik Ela\, EPRI \nForecast Applications Introduction\nAn introduction to how forecasts are used for many different applications\, how they may be used in the future\, and the different types of forecasts that are being developed for these applications.\nAidan Tuohy\, EPRI\n \nUsing Advanced Forecasts in Power System Operation Applications in Practice\nBalancing area operators will discuss how they use advanced forecasts for operations including a focus on probabilistic forecasts.\nUtility/ISO Speakers – TBD\n \nUsing Advanced Forecasts in Power System Operation Applications R&D\nResearchers will give a brief overview for how they are proposing to use advanced forecasts\, with a focus on probabilistic forecasts and applications for operations. Researchers from DOE’s Solar Forecasting 2 projects will provide some key insights and results. \nBen Hobbs\, Johns Hopkins University; Venkat Krishnan\, NREL\nMiguel Ortega-Vazquez\, EPRI\nBri-Mathias Hodge\, NREL \nDiscussion and Q&A\nOpen discussion\, Q&A\, with the WG members on other applications and other areas of interest. Polling for focus areas of future WG sessions. \nSystem Operation & Market Design Working Group Co-Chairs: Aidan Tuohy & Erik Ela\, EPRI \nAidan Tuohy\nErik Ela   \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
