SUMMARY:G-PST/ESIG Webinar Series: Update on Changing Role of Resources and Growth of Utility Scale Storage
DESCRIPTION:Download Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \nDownload Q&A Responses \n\nFeatured Speaker: Robert Kott\, Operations Policy Manager\, California Independent System Operator \nRobert Kott\nAbout the Webinar: This presentation provides an update on the current state of supply resources for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) balancing authority area (BAA) and the expected future state of the resource mix as CAISO continues an energy transition toward 60 percent renewable and 100 percent zero carbon resources. This will include a description of an effective resource adequacy program\, a review of the resource mix with respective contributions to serving a varying load profile\, a summary of the future changes to the resource mix based on the interconnection queue and an overview of the drivers behind the energy transition. The resource mix discussion examines the rapidly increasing role of battery storage resources and the challenges these resources are presenting to operations. Examples of peak operating periods will show how resources perform to meet load and renewable resource variability. \nAbout the Speaker: Robert Kott is Operations Policy Manager at the California Independent System Operator. He has 35 years of utility experience and has been with the CAISO for 21 years. He currently leads high level operational initiatives and represents the CAISO in technical forums. Previously he held management roles creating generation maintenance standards; managing local area reliability service process\, reliability agreements\, commercial model maintenance\, regulatory contract implementation\, resource adequacy implementation. He has a BS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from California State University\, Sacramento and a MBA from Pepperdine University. \nModerator: Charlie Smith\, Executive Director\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A. Please submit your questions and follow-along during the event at this link.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Energy Islands Update
DESCRIPTION:Download Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \n\nFeatured Speaker: Nicolaos A. Cutululis\, Professor\, Offshore Wind Power Integration\, Technical University of Denmark \nNicolaos A. Cutululis\nAbout the Webinar: Denmark and Northern Europe have set very ambitious targets for deployment of offshore wind power\, which will form the backbone of power generation in a decarbonized power system. To facilitate a cost-efficient connection of such massive amounts of offshore wind power\, Denmark is revolutionizing the grid connection concept for offshore wind. In 2020\, the Danish Parliament decided to develop and build two energy islands: one on the natural island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea and a second as an artificial island in the North Sea. Other countries\, like Belgium\, have announced their own plans of building energy islands. The talk with give an update on the status of the development of the energy islands\, addressing the challenges but also the innovation opportunities that come with these massive infrastructure projects. \nAbout the Speaker: Nicolaos A. Cutululis is Professor in Offshore Wind Power Integration\, based in the Department of Wind and Energy Systems at the Technical University of Denmark. His main research area is integration and operation of wind power moving towards 100% RES power systems\, with a special focus on offshore wind and HVDC. He has published extensively in his research field and is currently serving as one of the Chief Editors for Wind Energy Science Journal and an associated editor for IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy. He is active in shaping the research agenda at international level\, being a MB member of EERA JP Wind and Ex-co member for ETIPWind\, and core member of the RAG of Pillar 1 in G-PST. He is also representing Denmark in IEA Wind Task 25 and co-chairing the SET Plan HVDC Working Group. \nModerator: Charlie Smith\, Executive Director\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A. Please submit your questions and follow-along during the event at this link.
