SUMMARY:Webinar: Advancing Resource Adequacy Analysis with the GridPathRA Toolkit: A Case Study of the Western US
DESCRIPTION:View Webinar Recording \nDownload Presentation \nDownload Q&A Responses \n\nFeatured Speakers: Elaine Hart\, Founding Principal\, Moment Energy Insights LLC; Ana Mileva\, Founder\, Blue Marble Analytics \nElaine Hart\nAbout the Webinar: Robust and thoroughly vetted resource adequacy analyses will be critical to maintaining reliable supply as the power sector undergoes the clean energy transition. Supported by GridLab\, the GridPathRA Toolkit was developed to support advanced resource adequacy analysis for the Western United states. To improve transparency and accessibility\, the Toolkit leverages publicly available data and the GridPath open-source power system model. It advances the characterization of three phenomena that will be increasingly important for understanding RA in future power systems: weather-driven relationships between load and resource availability; capabilities and constraints of energy limited resources; and transmission flows and regional coordination. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Toolkit\, a Western US 2026 resource adequacy analysis case study was developed. The seminar will discuss the Toolkit methodology and the case study results. The study report and GridPath RA Toolkit\, containing the algorithms and datasets developed for this study\, will be shared publicly on GridLab’s website. \nAbout the Speakers: Dr. Elaine Hart is Founding Principal at Moment Energy Insights LLC\, a consulting firm committed to accelerating the clean energy transition through improved analytics and planning. Elaine brings experience in resource planning\, flexible resource valuation\, decarbonization policy analysis\, and resource adequacy analysis. She specializes in designing optimization-based models to inform electricity sector decisions in increasingly renewable systems. Prior to founding Moment Energy Insights\, Elaine was the Manager of Integrated Resource Planning at Portland General Electric (PGE)\, where she focused on resource planning\, energy storage evaluation\, and decarbonization strategy. Prior to joining PGE\, Elaine was a Managing Consultant at Energy & Environmental Economics. Elaine holds an MS in Materials Science & Engineering and PhD in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Stanford University. \nAna Mileva\nDr. Ana Mileva founded Blue Marble Analytics in 2016 and is the primary architect of GridPath\, Blue Marble’s grid-analytics software platform. Ana has extensive experience developing and applying various tools for electricity grid planning and operations\, focusing on procurement of renewable energy resources\, transmission\, storage\, and other renewables integration solutions. Her models have been used by government agencies\, utilities\, and developers to support integrated resource planning\, market participation benefits analysis\, and asset valuation. Prior to forming Blue Marble Analytics\, Ana worked with Energy and Environmental Economics (E3). Ana holds a PhD from the Energy and Resources Group and an MPP from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California\, Berkeley. \nModerator: Debbie Lew\, Associate Director\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A. SUMMARY:G-PST/ESIG Webinar Series: Probabilistic Resource Adequacy Methods
DESCRIPTION:Download Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \nDownload Q&A Responses \n\nFeatured Speaker: Derek Stenclik\, Founding Partner\, Telos Energy \nDerek Stenclik\nAbout the Webinar: This presentation will provide an update on what’s happening in the world of probabilistic resource adequacy methods. Think of it as a “Best of Album” in the niche genre of resource adequacy and reliability planning. By drawing on recent study work from around the world\, the presentation will cover novel approaches to model resource adequacy across broad regions\, the consideration of extreme weather\, modeling approaches for battery energy storage\, the effects of correlated outages thermal generators\, considering benefits of transmission\, and much more. The objective is to provide both practitioners and end users of resource adequacy models an overview of new studies and approaches needed to ensure reliability during the clean energy transition. \nAbout the Speaker: Derek Stenclik is a founding partner of Telos Energy\, an analytics and consulting firm specializing in renewable integration\, system planning\, and grid modeling. Prior to founding Telos Energy\, Derek spent eight years in GE Power’s Energy Consulting department as the Senior Manager of Power System Strategy. He holds an M.S. degree in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University and a B.A. in International Relations from the State University of New York\, College at Geneseo. Derek is a lifelong native of Upstate New York and currently resides in the town of Niskayuna with his wife and three sons. \nModerator: Julia Matevosyan\, Chief Engineer\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A. Please submit your questions and follow-along during the event at this link.
