SUMMARY:Webinar: Odessa Disturbance Events in Texas Interconnection
DESCRIPTION:Download Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \n\nFeatured Speaker: Patrick Gravois\, Lead Operations Engineer\, ERCOT \nAbout the Webinar: The Odessa Disturbance events in May of 2021 and June of 2022 in ERCOT both involved a system fault that resulted in significant loss of generation from multiple solar farms in West Texas. Due to the tremendous growth of solar generation within ERCOT over the past couple of years and the continued expected growth\, these types of events have the potential to increase in magnitude and pose severe reliability risks to the system. Since the 2021 event\, ERCOT has increased efforts to analyze root causes of inverter tripping during these events and identify potential corrective actions to improve ride-through performance of Inverter-Based Resources. This presentation will focus on ERCOT’s analysis process and results\, and the collaboration needed between ERCOT\, NERC\, TRE\, inverter manufacturers\, and Generator Owners to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. \nAbout the Speaker: Patrick Gravois graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013 and began working at ERCOT in the Engineer Development Program. He transitioned to the Grid Applications Support team and became a Subject Matter Expert on applications used in the control room such as State Estimation\, Voltage Stability Assessment tools\, and PMU applications. He moved to the Operations Analysis group in 2021 with a focus on Grid Event Analysis and Operations Improvement. Since the Odessa event of 2021\, he has become the lead engineer working with Inverter-Based Resources to improve ride-through performance during system disturbances. \nModerator: Charlie Smith\, Executive Director\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A. Please submit your questions and follow-along during the event at this link.
