SUMMARY:G-PST/ESIG Webinar Series: Ancillary Services from an Energy System with a High Share of Variable Renewable Energy (VRE)
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nDownload Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \nDownload Q&A \n\nFeatured Speaker: Thomas Dalgas Fechtenburg\, Senior Manager\, Energinet \nThomas Dalgas Fechtenburg\nAbout the Webinar: The Danish power system has one of the highest annual shares of energy from renewables\, primarily from wind energy\, of any large power system in the world. This webinar will describe the full range of issues associated with obtaining essential reliability services from a system with a high share of VRE\, ranging from the demands for services arising from a high share of VRE to the optimal market framework for obtaining those services\, including daily market auctions\, product size\, and settlement process. The participation of VRE in the ancillary service markets will be described\, along with the qualification process\, including dialogue with the plant owners\, testing\, and regulatory approval. Security of supply is of paramount importance. The use of VRE forecasting to ensure reliability will be described\, as well as the dynamic dimensioning of reserves to ensure equal risk level in different operational scenarios\, i.e. high wind / low wind. The objective is to provide both system operators and project developers a view of a process which has worked well to ensure operational reliability during the clean energy transition. \nAbout the Speaker: Thomas Dalgas Fechtenburg has been an energy engineer at Energinet in the department of Ancillary Services since 2016 and a senior manager since 2022. His experience includes: \n\n\n\nDeveloping technical requirements and markets for reserves based on the needs of the synchronous areas.\nImplementing EU requirements in national codes\, testing\, prequal and monitoring of units.\nLeading Danish TSO-DSO collaboration to enable trade with local flexibility to resolve local bottlenecks.\nEnabling flexible consumption and RE to provide ancillary services.\n\n\n\nModerator: Charlie Smith\, Executive Director\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A.
