SUMMARY:G-PST/ESIG Webinar Series: Operational Experience with Battery Energy Storage in ERCOT
DESCRIPTION:Download Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \n\nFeatured Speaker: Nitika Mago\, Manager\, Balancing Operations Planning\, ERCOT \n \nAbout the Webinar: As of February 28\, 2023\, ERCOT has integrated about 3\,014 MW of battery energy storage resource (includes standalone and co-located\, transmission connected\, and distribution connected) capacity on its grid. ERCOT is projecting to add an additional 4\,028 MW by end of 2023. These battery energy storage resources are actively participating both in ERCOT’s Ancillary Service and energy markets. Since late 2019\, ERCOT has developed several Market rules and implemented system changes to support integration of duration limited battery energy storage resources within its footprint and continue reliable grid operations. During the same time ERCOT has also brought about changes to the design of its Ancillary Services (aka “operational reserves”) program including creating a new Fast Frequency Response (FFR) product that can help improve frequency response and widen ERCOT’s operating range for inertia. This webinar will provide an overview of ERCOT’s experience (including challenges) with battery energy storage operations\, share strategies including tools\, procedures\, and approaches that have been incorporated or are in the process of being implemented to improve ERCOT’s monitoring and modeling of battery energy storage capability (“state of charge”). \nAbout the Speaker: Nitika Mago is currently the Manager for Balancing Operations Planning in the Operations Forecasting and Ancillary Services Planning department at ERCOT. Nitika has spent the last 15 years in the energy industry. Her areas of focus at ERCOT include power system grid operations\, grid balancing and frequency control\, inverter-based resource integration and energy forecasting\, ancillary services\, event analysis\, data analytics and modeling. Nitika received a BSEE degree from University of Mumbai in 2005 and MSEE degree from University of Texas at Austin in 2007. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas since 2011. \nModerator: Julia Matevosyan\, Chief Engineer\, ESIG \nRegistration Cost: FREE \nQ&A Session: We will be using the slido platform for Q&A.
