Historically\, our protection systems have been based on a “strong grid” consisting of centralized\, transmission-level rotating synchronous generator power plants. Our roadmap looks at the evolution of these protection schemes to a future with shorter critical clearing times\, lower fault currents\, and uncertain directional performance. \nSteven Sano\nAbout the Speaker: Steven Sano received his BSEE from the University of Hawaii at Manoa\, Honolulu\, HI in 1984 and has 31 years of experience at Hawaiian Electric Company.
