DESCRIPTION:Download Presentation \nView Webinar Recording \nDownload Q&A Responses \n\n \nFeatured Speakers: Ryan Westphal\, Senior Manager\, Resource Utilization\, MISO; David Bromberg\, Vice President\, Power and Renewables and Co-Founder of Pearl Street at Pearl Street Technologies – a Part of Enverus\, Inc. \nWebinar Abstract: MISO’s generator interconnection queue has seen a marked increase in requests over the past several cycles\, with net capacity approaching or exceeding peak load. The large volume of projects has presented challenges in expedient processing of the queue. MISO strives to remain a leader in innovation within the generator interconnection process\, with a primary goal of being able to complete the generation interconnection process in a 1-year timeline. Process improvements and automation will be a large part of being successful in achieving this goal and supporting the Transmission Evolution aspect of MISO’s Reliability Imperative. \nBeginning in the MISO DPP 2022 cycle\, MISO has deployed Pearl Street Technologies’ advanced SUGAR software to automate the Phase 1 study of its interconnection process. This software is designed to perform power flow analysis\, identify Network Upgrades (NUs)\, allocate costs using MISO’s Transmission Cost Estimation Guide and Transmission Owner upgrade inputs\, and validate constraint mitigation. \nDuring the webinar we’ll discuss the current status and future of SUGAR’s deployment in Phase 1 studies\, including MISO’s effort to outline a transparent process for network upgrade selection based on sound engineering principles\, automated model building and quality control\, and Pearl Street’s cloud architecture. \nAbout the Speakers: Ryan Henry Westphal has been an employee of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) for over 15 years. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2007. Currently\, he is a Senior Manager Resource Utilization for the system planning team at MISO where his responsibilities include managing the integration of new generation resources into the MISO transmission system. Ryan started his career at MISO as an engineer in the system planning group as an economic transmission planning engineer and has held several planning and policy roles of increasing responsibility over his career at MISO. He earned the Eagle Scout award in 2002. He enjoys downhill skiing\, fishing and participating/coaching in his two kids’ activities. \nDavid Bromberg is a Co-founder of Pearl Street Technologies and served as its CEO from inception through its successful acquisition by Enverus\, Inc\, where he is now VP of Power and Renewables. He was a part of the research group that first began work on what would later become SUGAR\, Pearl Street’s core power flow technology\, and the lead author of the first academic publication on this work. Before starting Pearl Street\, David worked at Aurora Solar where he developed cloud simulation software for residential and commercial solar energy production modeling.
