Webinar: Advancing Distribution System Planning for a Changing Grid
July 14, 2026 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Featured Speakers: Jesse Fallick, Vice President at Integral Analytics; Jeremy Laundergan, Senior Director of Distribution Technology and Planning, Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc. (E3); Sean Morash, Principal at PowerGEM; Cody Davis, Associate Technical Director of Grid Modernization, Electric Power Engineers (EPE)
Moderator: Debbie Lew, Executive Director, ESIG
About the Webinar: As utilities face accelerating electrification, distributed energy resource (DER) growth, and evolving reliability and affordability challenges, regulators and stakeholders are demanding greater transparency, rigor, and engagement in distribution system planning. Integrated Distribution System Planning (IDSP) and Distribution Resource Planning (DRP) have emerged as key frameworks to meet these expectations, but in many cases, current filings and processes are falling short of what regulators and stakeholders are seeking.
This ESIG webinar will bring together perspectives from leading practitioners to explore how IDSP can better deliver on its promise. Panelists will include Cody Davis (EPE), Sean Morash (PowerGEM), Jeremy Laundergan (E3), and Jesse Fallick (Integral Analytics).
The discussion will begin by examining the growing expectations from regulators and stakeholders for more transparent, actionable, and decision-relevant distribution planning. Panelists will highlight the key questions regulators are asking, including how IDSP can inform investment decisions, and support more coordinated planning across distribution, generation, transmission, and customer programs.
The panel will then assess where current IDSP and DRP efforts are succeeding and falling short, drawing on real-world experience across multiple jurisdictions. Topics will include gaps in transparency, limitations in modeling approaches, challenges in stakeholder engagement, and misalignment between planning outputs and regulatory decision-making needs.
The webinar will conclude with practical recommendations for utilities and regulators to advance more effective IDSP and DRP processes. Panelists will share lessons learned and best practices for improving analytical rigor, stakeholder engagement, and the integration of planning processes, ultimately supporting more cost-effective, reliable, and equitable grid outcomes.
About the Speakers: Jesse Fallick is Vice President at Integral Analytics, where he leads initiatives focused on utility planning, forecasting, and grid modernization. He has more than 15 years of experience spanning energy analytics, product management, and software solutions for utilities. Prior to Integral Analytics, Jesse held leadership roles at Recurve and Lime Energy. He holds an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business and a B.S. from Cornell University
Jeremy Laundergan is Senior Director of Distribution Technology and Planning at Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc. (E3). Jeremy has worked in the utility industry for over 20 years with experience helping utilities update and optimize their distribution systems and integrate distributed energy resources. His expertise includes grid modernization – use case development, systems architecture, business case planning, operational systems integration, distributed energy resource management, and demand side management programs such as flexible load – along with distribution planning and implementation oversight.
Sean Morash is a Principal at PowerGEM with experience across a range of topics, including power system modeling, transmission and distribution planning, and technology integration. He coordinated the ESIG Task Forces on Grid Planning for Building and Vehicle Electrification. He has led and contributed to projects combining the traditional disciplines of economics, engineering, technology, and policy, ranging from multi-stage nodal production cost modeling to grid modernization strategies. This experience across a range of topics provides a unique perspective for overcoming the practical challenges associated with integrating utility practices.
Cody Davis is an Associate Technical Director of Grid Modernization at Electric Power Engineers. He works with a variety of utilities and stakeholders on intersectional topics with planning, operations, and regulatory components including Flexible Interconnection and Locational Value of DER. He has authored reports and testimony in several states on a variety of distribution planning and operations topics within Grid Modernization.
