Earlier this year, ambitious goals were established at the federal level, including a plan for 100 percent clean electricity by 2035 and net-zero emissions across the economy by 2050. Reaching these goals efficiently will require action on a transformative scale, doubling or tripling the size and scale of the nation’s existing transmission system. Proactive national transmission planning is critical to meeting the current goals quickly and affordably.

During five separate sessions in late 2020, ESIG convened a broad range of power systems experts, who reviewed and synthesized the key research studies investigating energy sector decarbonization and developed a conceptual design for reaching America’s clean energy goals using proactive transmission planning and development.
