The Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG), the leading source of global expertise for energy systems integration and operations, has announced that Leo Jiang is joining its staff as Engineering Fellow. In addition to his role with ESIG, Jiang is the Director of Clarkson University’s Center for Electric Power System Research and is an Associate Professor in Clarkson University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has been supporting Avangrid in Distribution Planning with DERs and DER interconnections including study and research to improve the first flexible solar interconnection in the US.

“Utilizing ESIG seminars and reports in Clarkson’s online master’s program in power engineering has been a strong complement to our curriculum, and has allowed our students to understand how their analytical skills can be applied in real-world situations,” said Jiang. “I’m looking forward to leveraging my experience and expertise to support grid transformation and energy systems integration alongside my new ESIG colleagues.”

In his role as ESIG’s Engineering Fellow, Jiang will provide leadership and support to ESIG’s DER Working Group (DERWG) which covers DERs, electrification, distribution system planning, and integrated planning. Jiang will also support ESIG in its general outreach activities, including its efforts to expand its outreach to students and members of academia.

ESIG’s staff has grown significantly since 2024, expanding the organization’s expertise and influence across the power industry. Additionally, ESIG has seen significant membership growth in recent years, reaching and exceeding the milestone of 300 members in 2025.
