The O&M Users Group represents a large and vibrant community of owners and operators of wind and solar power plants and is the only truly independent forum for the sharing of operational and maintenance issues.
With no ties to any vendor or supplier and free of any commercial influence, this users group facilitates an open and candid discussion on the care and operation of generation equipment.
This group provides the tools and structure, while the membership builds up the institutional knowledge for renewable energy. The O&M Users Group has developed an extensive repository over the last 12 years and aims to continue growing the membership and knowledge base exponentially.
Members of the O&M Users Group are encouraged to interact with one another via Groups.IO, an online discussion platform and community network. User collaboration is structured into subgroups open to all members of the ESIG O&M Users Group. Specific subgroups provide a personalized experience based on an individual’s needs. A list of the current subgroups can be found at the bottom of this page.
The ESIG Resource Library is also a valuable tool for those seeking information on Operations & Maintenance, as well as other topics.
Links to both can be found below:
(Please note: only members of ESIG may participate in the Working/Users Groups. If you are interested in membership, please email us at info@esig.energy.)
Operating Practices Guidebook
Platinum Sponsor
In 2008, ESIG published a Wind Operating Practices Guidebook (OPG) documenting principles, processes, and best practices for wind farm operations. The guidebook was a result of the collaborative effort by ESIG members who had volunteered to author and peer-review its contents and is therefore a representation of the institutional knowledge that exists behind ESIG’s strong membership. In 2024, ESIG intends to update the existing Wind OPG and create a new guidebook for solar farm and storage facility operations.
The global push for clean and sustainable energy sources is driving an increased demand for renewable energy generation across wind, solar and storage. As technology advances and costs decrease, more players are likely to enter the market to capitalize on this growing demand. In addition, ongoing advancements particularly in solar and energy storage technologies create opportunities for innovation that aim to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and solve current renewable energy challenges. The resulting OPGs are intended to be a useful reference and training resource for various levels of renewable power generation participants including technicians, managers, and engineers who are responsible for various aspects of operations and maintenance and will also be helpful for new entrants into the industry.
To bring this vision to life, we are asking for support. Your generosity can make a significant impact on the success of this initiative.
Here’s how you can contribute:
- Monetary Donations. Your financial support will directly contribute to the production of the updated Operating Practices Guidebook.
- Volunteer as author or reviewer. If you have technical or management expertise and/or a long-standing experience in the operations of solar, storage and/or wind assets, we are looking for volunteers to author or peer-review sections of the guidebook, depending on your area of expertise or experience.
- Spread the Word. Share our fundraising campaign with your network, both online and offline. The more people who know about our initiative, the closer we get to reaching our funding goal and to the success of this initiative.
