ESIG LLTF Webinar: Study Concepts for Large Data Center Loads

April 28 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

  • « Advanced Integrated Planning Tools Virtual Workshop
  • G-PST/ESIG Webinar: Ireland and Northern Ireland’s Operational Policy Roadmap 2025 to 2035 »

Andrew Isaacs

**PLEASE NOTE – THIS IS A MEMBERS-ONLY WEBINAR**

Featured Speaker: Andrew Isaacs, Vice President, Electranix

About the Webinar: The fast advent of large data center loads has caught the power systems community largely off guard, with new and important dynamic behaviors opening up the bulk power system to serious reliability risks.  This presentation will highlight urgent study considerations from the perspective of transmission planners charged with system reliability, including evaluation of potential synchronous generator damage, dealing with the potential increase in harmonic issues through the grid, degradation of system damping, and the need for new approaches to system voltage control.  A discussion of system modeling categories will be presented summarizing which models will be needed for each type of concern, as well as some general suggestions for load entities overwhelmed with data requests.

About the Speaker: Andrew Isaacs is Vice President at Electranix Corporation, where he has been for over 20 years. He currently specializes in renewable interconnections, weak grid and SSO issues, grid-forming inverter application and specification, large load interconnections, as well as large scale EMT system modelling and process implementation. Additional current efforts include specification and support for FACTs, training for utility planners, and study team leadership. Andrew obtained his M.Sc.(EE) from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He is an active participant in working groups through NERC, CIGRE, ESIG, and the IEEE.

Registration Cost: FREE for ESIG Members

Q&A Session: We will be using the Slido platform for Q&A. Please submit your questions and follow-along during the event at this link.
