Featured Speaker: Sam Hartnett, Energy Web Foundation

Sam Hartnett is the Research and Market Development Manager at Energy Web Foundation, where he works with EWF’s Affiliate companies to develop and implement enterprise-grade blockchain solutions. Sam has a background in energy software development and demand response aggregation. His prior roles include developing clean energy portfolio strategies for utilities and the mining sector at Rocky Mountain Institute and managing demand response operations across the Asia-Pacific region at EnerNOC.

Moderator: Charlie Smith, ESIG Executive Director

Registration Cost: FREE

Webinar Abstract: The importance of using data to make real-time operational and long-term investment decisions in the energy sector is increasing as distributed, renewable, and internet-enabled “smart” resources continue to proliferate, especially on the world’s electricity grids. Blockchain technology has the potential to improve coordination among disparate physical and digital systems throughout the energy sector. Rather than being a “hammer looking for a nail,” blockchain has the features necessary to address many of the issues around the integration of DER. Although a nascent technology mostly demonstrated in pilots, enterprise-grade solutions and full-scale commercial deployments are on the way. Learn how utilities, grid operators, upstream energy companies, and technology providers are leveraging blockchain applications to better integrate distributed energy resources, improve renewable energy tracking, and create new market opportunities.
