The Fall System Operation and Market Design Working Group will be held on November 5, 2020. This working group often focuses on research and the future evolution of how operations or electricity market designs are evolving given a changing resource mix or other aspects that require evolution. During this session, panelists from system and market operators will discuss key recent events to help in understanding operations and market design challenges arising from evolving resource mixes. Detailing the events and showing real data with existing systems will be beneficial to other operators, researchers, and practitioners to understand the current challenges facing systems and the mitigation strategies that are being deployed.
After an update from the working group chairs on other key events that have occurred in 2020 regarding system and market operation, the panelists will then provide a detailed review of notable events. Participants are encouraged to provide brief updates from other regions when appropriate and during the panel Q&A. The session will be 90 minutes.
