Featured Speaker: Pengwei Du, Supervisor of Resource Forecasting and Analysis, ERCOT

About the Webinar: As more renewable resources are interconnected to the grid, the grid reliability need is changing. Faced with these challenges, ERCOT has re-designed the ancillary service market to maintain the grid reliability. ERCOT Contingency Reserve Service (ECRS) is a new ancillary service product that has recently been introduced. For the purpose of restoring or maintaining the frequency of the ERCOT System or providing capacity for large and sustained net-load ramps, ECRS is a service that is offered utilizing capacity that can be maintained at a specific level for two straight hours. This talk will present the rationale behind the introduction of ECRS, the methodology of determining the quantities of ECRS, and the ECRS deployment scenarios.

About the Speaker: Dr. Pengwei Du is Supervisor of Resource Forecasting and Analysis with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Prior to this, he was a senior research engineer with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Dr. Du has more than 20 years of extensive experience in simulation, modeling, protection and control, renewable energy integration, demand response and market design. Dr. Du was the recipient of the IEEE PES Power System Dynamic Performance Committee Prize Paper Award in 2016, IEEE PES Prize Paper Award in 2020 and IEEE Transactions on Power Systems Best Paper Award in 2021. Dr. Du has been the associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Energy Markets, Policy and Regulation, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and the subject editor of IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution. He is a fellow of IET.
